Scottsdale

Scottsdale, Arizona

Scottsdale is a desert city in Arizona east of state capital Phoenix. It's known for its spa resorts and golf courses, including TPC Scottsdale. Farther north, trails wind through McDowell Sonoran Preserve, a desertscape of hills, rock formations and cacti. Nearby is Taliesin West, architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s former home and studio. Downtown's Old Town Scottsdale has 1920s buildings and 19th-century olive trees.

Scottsdale, Arizona has been described as the desert version of Miami’s South Beach, making it a perfect destination for those looking for sunshine and sophistication when vacationing out west. This city not only has a gorgeous desert backdrop, but a bustling downtown area with high-end shops and world-class restaurants. No travel to Scottsdale would be complete without some sort of extravagant pampering, considering the city has more spas per capita than anywhere else in the country.

Before you settle down for a massage, wear yourself out on a hike or a round of golf. Scottsdale is nestled in the Sonoran Desert, and there are many hiking trails in the outskirts of the city, ranging from easy to challenging. Scottsdale travel has something to offer everyone from soothing spa mud baths to championship golf courses.

When to Go to Scottsdale

The main weather consideration is the desert city’s boiling-hot summers. For those who don’t want to get caught in the heat, avoid the months of June, July and August when the temperature easily breaks 100 degrees. The benefit of hitting the off-season is snagging deep deals on hotels—including discounts on spa treatments.

Looking for a milder climate? Better to travel to Scottsdale in the fall and winter. Peak season is January to April when the weather is a lovely 70 degrees and sunny—the best time for golfing and outdoor activities. October to December yields somewhat unpredictable temperature, swinging between 90’s and 60’s, but easily navigable with a light sweater.
